Julia beside the Gangotri Glacier, Garhwal Himalaya, with Bhagirathi III and Bhagirathi III in the background.

We visited the glacier in the autumn. The sun was bright but the air was cold. Sun-hat and balaclava were often our preferred head-gear.

From the meadows at Tapovan the trail follow the moraine along the glacier\'s left bank and then leads onto the glacier itself. The Gangotri Glacier is one of the largest in the Himalaya, about 30km long and 2-4km wide.
