Kedarnath temple isn't much bigger than a house but it still manages to be an imposing structure. It is one of the 12 Jyotir linga - "pillars of light" where the god Shiva became manifest on earth. Their locations span India. Kedarnath is also one of the Panch Kedar - the "five Kedars" - all located in the Himalaya - that are associated with parts of the body of a buffalo whose form Shiva assumed when the Pandava brothers were pursuing him in search of absolution from their sins.
