The first official ascent of Kyashar, in the Nepal Himalaya, was made in October 2003 by Bruce Normand, Andi Frank and Sam Broderick.

They took a line up snow slopes beneath the south face to gain the 5800 m col separating Kyashar from Kusum Kanguru. From here they ascended the west ridge, turning the steep and rocky upper part of the ridge by couloirs on the west face.

They descended by the same route.
