Stephan Siegrist, Thomas Senf and Dres Abegglen have climbed a new route on Kishtwar Shivling, reaching the summit on 1 October 2014. Theirs is the second ascent of the mountain, first climbed in 1983 by Dick Renshaw and Stephen Venables.

The route, which they called Challo ("Let's Go" in Hindi) follows a line up the East Pillar, finishing on the East Summit (5894m) of Kishtwar Shivling.

The climbers started from a  bivy on the glacier at 4700m  and then followed a 50° ramp to the saddle at 5400m. The next day they climbed 10 demanding pitches up a hidden couloir, with difficulties up to 90° WI5, followed by tricky mixed ground. A providential hole in the enourmous summit cornice gave them access to the East Summit. They descended by abseil to the saddle and then completed their descent to Base Camp the following day.

Shortly before making the ascent, the team had made the first ascents of two nearby peaks,  Shiepra and Kharagosa.

The East Pillar of Kishtwar Shivling had been the target of several previous expeditions. A British-Canadian-American expedition (Kevin Thaw, Mark Synnott, and Peter Croft) failed to reach the base of the mountain in 2008 due to concerns that separatist fighters were operating in the area.
